The Woodstock Slammers returned last night from a successful two-game weekend road trip.
The Slammers won both of their games on the weekend of February 4th and 5th, and clinched the President's Cup. This is the third consecutive year that they have clinched the prize, which is awarded to the MHL squad with the top overall record and guarantees home ice throughout the league playoffs.
On February 5th, the Slammers defeated the Miramichi Timberwolves 5-2 at the Miramichi Civic Centre. The scoring was opened late in the first period at 19:08, with a goal netted by Woodstock's Nick Huard. Philip Fife and Andrew Langan provided the assist.
Slammers goaltender Matt Murphy saved 25 of 27 shots faced for the win, while Miramichi netminder and former Slammer Tyler Piercy refused 32 out of 37 shots faced for the loss.

Slammers assistant captain Robert Visca took a two-minute penalty for boarding at 13:05 in the second, however, both task forces were at even strength as the Timberwolves were issued a bench minor for having too many players on the ice at the same time.
Another penalty was issued during the second period towards Woodstock. Ben MacSwain took a high-sticking penalty at 14:14. Miramichi took a penalty shortly after, with Philip Richer being sent to the penalty box for tripping at 17:02. Woodstock then went on a power play, but failed to score, despite a few good chances.
The Timberwolves got on the scoreboard at 6:32 in period three, with a goal netted by Billy Gaston, and assisted by Jarrett Johns and Patrick MacIssac.
The Slammers didn't let their guard down though. The lead was changed to 4-1 at 9:26, when Philip Fife put the rubber between the posts. Andrew Langan and Nick Huard chipped in for the assist.
Miramichi got a second goal in at 9:48. Marshall Worden scored, and Billy Gaston and Tommy Beseau assisted.
The Slammers sealed the deal at 17:58. Evan Carmody scored the Slammers' game-winning goal, and Ryan Purvis and Bradley Greene pitched in with the assist.

On Sunday, February 5th, the Slammers traveled across the Confederation Bridge to face the Summerside Western Capitals. Woodstock downed the Caps 5-3 in a close game of MHL hockey at the Credit Union Place.
The scoring was opened by Slammers captain Andrew Langan at 13:56. Jake Logan provided the assist. Langan's goal was the only goal in the first period, and the 21st goal of the season for Langan.
Woodstock killed off two penalties during the first period. Nick Huard was penalized for slashing at 2:19, and Colton Stairs got a two-minute minor penalty for boarding at 5:32.
Just two and a half minutes into period two, Colton Stairs engaged in a fight against Pat McGrath of Summerside.
The Slammers played without Stairs for the majority of period two, as he was issued a five-minute fighting major penalty and a ten-minute misconduct. Pat McGrath received a fighting major along with a gross misconduct.

Nick Huard netted the first goal of the second period at 4:34. Assistant captain Tim Campbell assisted.
Summerside got on the board with a goal netted by forward Colton Parsons nearly a minute later.
Thomas Flynn tied things at two when he scored at 6:54. But the Slammers broke the tie nearly four minutes later. Brett MacLean assisted a goal netted by Tim Campbell.
Shortly after Campbell's goal, another fight ensued involving Woodstock's Ryan Purvis and Summerside's Steven Brazil. This fight ended with some blood shed, as both Purvis and Brazil left the ice with bloody noses.

In period three, Slammers captain Andrew Langan placed the rubber between the posts just over two minutes into the period. Colton Parsons scored the third goal for the Western Capitals on a power play at 15:46.
Bradley Greene scored the winning goal for the Slammers on an empty net at 19:57.
Reactions from Slammers players following the games was generally positive.
"There are three things on this team: heart, soul and passion," assistant captain Ben Miller told The Shiretown Blogger.
"The Woodstock Slammers are the best," assistant captain Tim Campbell said with a smile.
