The Slammers edged the Campbellton Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday, March 6th in Campbellton, claiming game number two of the best-of-seven series. As a result, the Slammers now lead the series 2-0.
Connor Tresham led the Slammers with two goals.
The Tigers opened the scoring at 4:55 with an unassisted shorthanded goal netted by Stephen Groom. Connor Tresham responded later in the first period, scoring at 17:50 on a power play and tying the game at one after period one.
Tresham scored again at 5:18 in period two, giving the Slammers a one-point lead over the Tigers. Christopher Caissy took advantage of a power play opportunity for Campbellton, slipping a shot past Woodstock netminder Matt Murphy at 19:45 and tying the game at two.
Nick Huard scored Woodstock's game winner at 18:11 in period three.
The Slammers had four power play opportunities, managing to score only once, while the Tigers were on the power play five different times and scored once.
Matt Murphy refused 27 of 29 shots for the Slammers' winning effort, while Raphael Roy stopped 35 out of 38 shots.
Slammers head coach Jason Tatarnic is pleased with Woodstock's victory and is preparing for game three.
"Its a win in the playoffs on the road and it gives us a 2-0 lead in the series, and we're back at home for game three," Tatarnic stated in a press release on the Slammers' website. "We need to keep it simple and execute when the opportunity arises."
The Woodstock Slammers will be back in action tonight for game number three at the Carleton Civic Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
