The fall season is indeed a colorful one, with area trees dominated by red, orange, and yellow. Some of the local trees have even shed their leaves completely for another year. It is the perfect time to drive on the back roads and photograph scenery, as these colors appear only once annually.
It is also the season for local hunters to be out in the woods donning bright orange sweaters and practicing their aim with a firearm. Here's hoping they hit their targets right on, and don't mistake any other living things for wildlife. For those of you who entered the draw for moose licenses and were lucky enough to win, congratulations.
I was fortunate enough to cover an open-air marketplace on Queen Street in August as part of the Dooryard Arts Festival. When I spoke to the friendly Falls Brook Centre staff working their booth, I learned that the white-tailed deer is an invasive species to New Brunswick. Therefore, the deer should be a favored target for hunters.
Autumn is a season of transition between our warm summers and cold winters. Jack Frost has already paid us a few brief visits in the mornings. Before you know it, his visits will last entire days and nights. Winter is right around the corner, so enjoy autumn every chance you get.
