Woodstock teen preparing for second MMA match

A Woodstock teen is counting down the days until his second amateur MMA fight.
Jake Cunningham

Jake Cunningham, 16, is looking forward to his upcoming fight, scheduled for Saturday, June 9th, at the Old Cosmo in Moncton at 7 pm.

Cunningham, who is finishing grade eleven at Woodstock High School, seems more than excited for his second fight.

"[I am] definitely looking forward to it!" Cunningham told The Shiretown Blogger via Facebook message. "I have a lot of motivation for this fight, and I can't wait for Saturday!"

Cunningham was successful in his MMA debut, when he fought Zack Smith at the Brawl at the Bar event held at the Old Cosmo in Moncton in late February.

Cunningham couldn't comment on all that he does as part of the training process, however, he did say that a significant amount of both physical and mental preparation are necessary.

"I will only say half of it is physical," Cunningham said. "There is a lot of mental preparation in this sport."

Tickets are still available for sale for $25 each, and can be purchased from Cunningham. However, anyone interested in traveling to Moncton to take in the event is encouraged to get their tickets soon, as they are likely selling out fast.

Cunningham expressed gratitude for the amount of support he is receiving in his MMA endeavors.

"I have lots of support," Cunningham said. "More than I can handle sometimes!"

"Cage Rage has treated me great too!"
