Tech community mourns loss of Steve Jobs

It was announced on October 5th, 2011 that Steve Jobs, a co-founder of Apple Incorporated, has lost a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on February 24, 1955, Steve Jobs was also involved in Pixar Animation Studios, and served on the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company after Disney acquired Pixar.

Steve Jobs' work in the computer industry dates back to the 1970s, when he helped design, develop and market one of the first commercially successful line of personal computers, the Apple II series. In the 1980s, Steve Jobs was one of the first to realize the commercial potential in Xerox PARC's mouse-driven graphical user interface, leading to the creation of the Macintosh computer.

He purchased the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm Ltd. in 1986. This was a spinoff of Pixar Animation Studios. Jobs was Chief Executive Officer and majority shareholder (at 50.1 per cent) until Disney's purchase of Pixar in 2006.

On August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs resigned from his position of Chief Executive Officer of Apple.

Steve Jobs will be sadly missed. His legacy lives on in your iPod, iPhone, iPad, and any Apple computers.
