Dooryard Arts Festival began at 12:00 pm Wednesday

The damp and wet weather failed to rain on the parade of the 3rd Annual Dooryard Arts Festival yesterday. The organizers officially kicked off this year's festival with some lunchtime music in the town square provided by Kyle Johnsen and Colin Brewer. Both have roots in New Brunswick--Kyle is originally from New Denmark but now lives in Moncton, and Colin is originally from Woodstock but now lives in China. He is attempting to get rooted back here as much as possible.

Almost ready!

Art work is on display in the windows of various downtown businesses, including  Made You Blush.

Colin Kelly Brewer emphasized during his performance that he can be found on the social network My Space, and his email address is colinkellybrewer@gmail.com . He promised to email a free song to anyone who was in attendance during his lunchtime performance if they email him.

Woodstock High School art teacher Michael McEwing also hosted a printmaking workshop from 2:00-4:00 pm yesterday. This was an interesting and informative workshop on making prints using a piece of pink foam insulation, pencils, cookie cutters, ink and plexiglass for covering your picture on the insulation with ink, and paper for making the print. Due to the damp weather yesterday afternoon, the prints were not dry right away, so they can be picked up at the Dooryard Arts Festival headquarters at 114 Queen Street, at the former location of Acorn Books.

Michael McEwing explains how to create a print during the printmaking workshop held in the gazebo on the greenway along the banks of the Meduxnekeag River yesterday afternoon.

This is the print Michael McEwing made as part of his demonstration.

Students of all ages came out to participate in the printmaking workshop.

Woodstock Mayor Art Slipp braved the rain and came out to the Dooryard Arts Festival to take pictures of the festivities to possibly post on the Town of Woodstock website. (www.town.woodstock.nb.ca). He is seen here posing for a picture with the Picaroons Mainstage in the background.
