Promenade of Premiers coming to Woodstock on August 25th

A ceremony set for Thursday, August 25th, will officially unveil panels to recognize two former New Brunswick premiers.

The panels will be in recognition of James Kidd Fleming, premier from 1911 to 1914, and his son Hugh John Fleming, premier from 1952 to 1960. The ceremony is the latest in the New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission's Promenade of Premiers, which aims to honor all of New Brunswick's former premiers from 1867 onward in their hometowns.

Woodstock's ceremony will take place on the lawn of the L.P. Fisher Public Library at 9 am on Thursday. Along with the plaques honoring James Kidd and Hugh John Fleming, there will be a plaque with a list of all of New Brunswick's premiers from 1867 until present unveiled. There will be speeches by Woodstock Mayor Art Slipp, New Brunswick Premier David Alward, and Hugh Fleming speaking on behalf of the family.

Similar ceremonies were held in 2010 to unveil plaques in honor of Richard Hatfield (premier from 1970 to 1987) in his hometown of Hartland, and Louis Robichaud (premier from 1960-1970) in his hometown of Sainte-Antoine.

  1. I believe the time of the ceremony mentioned is incorrect. I have been informed that the ceremony is actually scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, instead of 9 am, as mentioned. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.
